
Professional Opportunity Fulbright Economics Teaching Program (FETP), Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Position: Post-Doctoral Fellow in Sustainable Development The Fulbright School Established in 1994, the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program (FETP/Fulbright School) is a joint initiative of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Vietnam Program (USA) and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
FETP is a leading center for economics and public policy teaching and research. It offers a Masters in Public Policy (MPP), the first graduate level program in public policy in Vietnam. A dedicated teaching faculty provides students with a world-class public policy education that is theoretically rigorous and pays specific attention to Vietnam’s unique conditions. As Vietnam develops, the MPP introduces new course offerings to meet emerging policy challenges.
Students come to FETP from a wide range of professional backgrounds and hold Bachelor degrees from a variety of disciplines. The Lower Mekong Public Policy Initiative (LMPPI) LMPPI is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It is housed at the Fulbright School. The LMPPI’s primary goal is to facilitate knowledge generation, learning, and dialogue on public policies which promote economic development that is ecologically sustainable, agriculturally productive, and improve household livelihoods in the Lower Mekong countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar/Burma).
LMPPI partners with international/national research institutes, private sector actors, and researchcentered non-government organizations within the region, to generate policy relevant research to the challenges facing the environment, agriculture and livelihoods. A key feature of LMPPI is to ensure that its research enhances the curriculum and learning opportunities at the Fulbright School. The Position To expand its support for the Fulbright School, LMPPI will be hiring a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Sustainable Development.
The Fellow will assist the LMPPI staff and FETP faculty develop new courses for the flagship MPP program and will be expected to contribute to FETP’s robust research agenda. Specific details are included in the attached Terms of Reference. FETP invites applications for this two-year post-doctoral fellowship position in Sustainable Development beginning 01 January 2016. Time allotment for the position is split between curriculum development, research/research coordination, and teaching.
Applications are welcome from candidates with doctoral degrees in either the social or natural or applied sciences and with research, teaching, and/or work experience in the following areas: economic development, environmental science/economics, agricultural economics, natural resource management, or public policy.
Teaching, mentoring, policy-engagement, and research at the Fulbright School rely on the diverse interests and skills of a multi-functional fellow. This position includes collaboration with the LMPPI’s multidisciplinary research partners in the countries of the Lower Mekong as well as development of research-based policy dialogue programs with various stakeholders and environmental governance actors. Fluency in the Vietnamese language is a plus.
